Ride one to six hours to benefit the 852 athletes of Special Olypmics Vermont and Be a Fan!

INDIVIDUAL - 6 HOURS

  • Riding as an individual
  • Riding for entire 6hours
  • $25 registration fee (unless registered before January 15th)
  • $250 fundraising minimum

 

RELAY TEAM - TEAMMATE riding for LESS THAN 6 HOURS

  • Riding as a member of a RELAY TEAM
  • You are sharing a bike with other members of your team for the 6 hours
  • $25 registration fee (unless registered by January 15th)
  • $150 fundraising minimum

INDIVIDUAL - LESS THAN 6 HOURS

  • Riding as an individual without a team
  • Riding for less than 6 hours
  • YOU WILL BE PLACED ON A RELAY TEAM
  • On your registration form, let us know which hours you'd like to ride; if you register online, email kbookless@vtso.org
  • $25 registration fee (unless registered before January 15th)
  • $150 fundraising minimum

RELAY TEAM - TEAMMATE riding for 6 HOURS

  • Riding as a member of a RELAY TEAM
  • You are riding your own bike for the full six hours
  • $25 registration fee (unless registered by January 15th)

Incentives

All riders will recieve a "6-Hour Ride" bag upon check-in on March 19th, 2011 at the Blue Ribbon Pavilion.

 

Those riders who reach the $500, $750, $1000 and $2000 fundraising levels will receive additional incentive prizes and be entered to win additional raffles.

 

Incentive items have not yet been determined for the 2011 ride.  Stay tuned for more updates and photos!

 

Barbara Hoots

A veteran Star 3 Spinning instructor from Albany, Georgia, Barbara is passionate about spreading joy of indoor cycling to students of all ages and fitness levels.  An expert at creating unique environments which foster nonjudgmental, noncompetitive ambiance, Barbara can transform any space into an energy packed studio using her skillful application of lighting, sound and design.  In addition to launching new programs, she lectures on how to gain and sustain student momentum and teaches empowerment rides for athletes, wounded warriors and students of addiction recovery.  Barbara recently designed studios for Half Moon Resort in Jamaica, Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN, and the U.S. Army at Fort Bills in El Paso, TX.  Married and the mother of two daughters in college, Barbara also enjoys yoga and tennis.  Visit her website at www.spinroomdesign.com.  


 

Melissa Marotta

Melissa is a STAR 3 Spinning® instructor, Certified Personal Trainer (American Council on Exercise), outdoor cycling enthusiast, and a fourth-year medical student at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. Melissa hails from New York City, where she continues to train indoor cyclists for New York Sports Clubs in addition to coaching in her new home at the University of Vermont in Burlington.

 

Author of the popular blog Spintastic (http://spintastic.blogspot.com) dedicated to applications of cycling training to improving “life off the bike,” Melissa approaches indoor cycling instruction the same way she approaches medicine: educating and empowering people to make their own choices to enhance their wellness, mindfulness, and self-efficacy in a way that is consistent with their goals and values. Her current research focus includes the psychological effects of heart rate training, and heart rate training for anxiety management. She is also the medical research correspondent for IndoorCycleInstructor.com. She plans to pursue a residency in family medicine.


Anthony Musemici

Anthony is a Master Instructor for the Spinning® program and founder of AMFit personal training, a home training business based out of Queens, NY. He is an ACE, AFAA and NASM certified personal trainer as well as a former amateur competitive cyclist (Category 4). Anthony has been in the fitness industry for more than 12 years and has trained athletes of every age.

 

As a Master Instructor, Anthony has presented workshops and trainings all over the country as well on a national level at the World Spinning and Sports Conference (WSSC), Kettlebell Concepts Galvanized Sports Conference and ECA World fitness Conference in New York.

 

 

Angie Scott

Angie has been interested in health and fitness since she was a little girl, turning cartwheels and bending over backwards in her backyard. Next came skiing, running, instructing group aerobics, and cycling - which led to her passion for the Spinning program.  A Master Instructor for the Spinning® program (Spin Fitness®/Mad Dogg Athletics), Angie is also ACE and AFAA certified in Group Exercise and Personal Training. Each one of her outdoor bikes has a name, and she spends hours covering as many miles as possible each cycling season. 

 

She enjoys mentoring 4th and 5th grade students in the Everybody Wins VT reading program, as well as working with other organizations such as the American Heart Association, Susan G. Komen Foundation, Special Olympics Vermont, and the Challenged Athletes Foundation. Angie has also presented at the World Spinning and Sports Conference (WSSC). This is her 11th year co-leading the 6-Hour Ride.

 

We can't thank our local health clubs enough for their participation and support of the 6-Hour Ride for a Reason and ou 852 athletes.  Additionally many of these health clubs will offer training sessions, new rider classes, etc.  Click on the name of a health club near you to learn more about their involvement with the 6-Hour Ride!

Volunteers are and integral part of making the 6-Hour Ride a success!  Volunteers are needed throughout our planning process and on the day of the event.  This is a great opportunity for business, schools, community groups and sports teams to participate in a day of community services and bond.

 

There are a variety of volunteer opportunities available, including:

  • Site set-up (Friday)

  • Registration (Saturday)
  • Sit maintenance (Saturday)
  • Site breakdown (Saturday)
  • Food/Beverage distribution (Saturday)
  • Rider assistance (Saturday)

  • Database management (Oct-Jan)
  • Assistance with marketing/advertising (Oct-Jan)
